History! Trivia! Hilarity!

History
Meet Chicago’s most exclusive high-rise with skyline views: the Metropolitan Correctional Center — a triangular brutalist skyscraper jail where El Chapo, R. Kelly, and Rod Blagojevich got to enjoy Lake Michigan sunsets… while plotting their next move. Built to be ‘humane,’ it featured rooftop rec yards, gyms, and libraries — plus 5-inch windows so narrow even dental floss had to pull overtime in escape attempts. Bedsheet rappelling from 20+ stories? Just another Tuesday at the Windy City’s weirdest penthouse prison.”
Trivia
Shrog spots the bust by the river: “Who is this statue, Bob?”
It’s Jean Baptiste Point du Sable—recognized as Chicago’s first permanent non-Native settler and founder. A freed man of Haitian descent, he arrived in the late 1700s as a fur trader, built a trading post right at the mouth of the Chicago River (now prime Magnificent Mile real estate), and helped lay the groundwork for the city we know today.
We don’t know every detail of his life, but his legacy is huge—hence the bust at Pioneer Court honoring him. Shrog has thoughts on how that trading post spot has changed… and Chicago history has a way of responding!
Spot this one next time you’re crossing the DuSable Bridge—it’s a quick, powerful reminder of the city’s origins.

Family Ties didn’t take place in Chicago, but it also didn’t start with a J6 protest with QAnon Shaman falling in love with a fellow insurrectionist.
